Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers in Winnipeg

In recent years, porcelain veneers have become the most sought-after cosmetic dentistry solution at Linden Market Dental Centre. Dr. Rykiss and his cosmetic dentistry team can apply thin shells made of the finest, tooth-colored porcelain to the surface of a patient’s teeth to mask imperfections such as discoloration, uneven tooth size, chips, cracks, and even a crooked smile.

Who is a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Most patients are candidates for a porcelain veneer treatment however the initial consultation between you and Dr. Rykiss will determine if veneers are appropriate for you. Patients who have healthy teeth and gums and no signs of tooth decay or gum disease are the best candidates. If you have gum disease or another restricting oral health issue these can be addressed by Dr. Rykiss before providing the dental veneers treatment.

What can Porcelain Veneers help Correct?

Porcelain veneers can help to improve the appearance of:

  1. Chipped or cracked teeth
  2. Discolored teeth
  3. Crooked or misaligned teeth
  4. Eroded teeth
  5. Gapped teeth

How does the Porcelain Veneers Process Work?

After you decide that you have an interest in porcelain veneers schedule an appointment with Dr. Rykiss to go over your smile goals. You can bring in pictures of celebrities or old photos of yourself to give us an idea of the type of smile you like. From there Dr. Rykiss will evaluate your teeth, mouth and gums and notify you of any limitations for a porcelain veneers procedure.

If you are an ideal candidate and choose to move forward with the procedure Dr. Rykiss will take into consideration such aspects of your teeth and appearance as:

  1. Your overall facial appearance
  2. Facial measurements
  3. Skin tone
  4. Facial features
  5. Color of your teeth

These aspects of your teeth, mouth, gums and overall appearance will help Dr. Rykiss to create the most aesthetically pleasing veneers for your unique smile.

Porcelain Veneers Procedure

After your consultation your next appointment will begin the process of preparing the teeth for veneers. Your Winnipeg veneers dentist will gently remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth. The amount of enamel removed will vary depending on the thickness of the veneers, but generally ranges from about 0.3-1.2 mm. Once the teeth that are receiving the veneers are prepped, an impression of your mouth will be taken and be sent to the lab.

Before you leave our office we will place temporary veneers on your teeth that will closely resemble the finished product. Once the porcelain veneers arrive from the lab, you will come back into the office to have the permanent veneers placed. Before they are permanently adhered to your teeth, you can confirm that you like the look, color and function. If you are satisfied with the veneers, they will be bonded to the front of your teeth and can go home smiling!

Porcelain Veneer Alternatives

Porcelain veneers tend to be one of the most expensive procedures in cosmetic dentistry. In addition to being expensive, they are also a permanent solution and may not be the ideal choice for every patient. Consider these other alternatives to porcelain veneers if they are not for you:

  1. Teeth whitening: Teeth whitening is a quick and relatively inexpensive procedure that can get your teeth brighter and whiter. We offer both in-office and take-home whitening solutions.
  2. Dental bonding: Dental bonding can be used to improve the color, shape and size of teeth and is a popular alternative to porcelain veneers.
  3. Lumineers: Lumineers are similar to porcelain veneers in that they are adhered to the surface of the teeth. They can often be used to treat chipped, cracked, misaligned, discolored or otherwise misshapen teeth. Porcelain veneers, however, tend to be the most long-term and aesthetically pleasing alternative of the two.
