Family Dentistry

Dr. Rykiss and the team at Linden Market Dental Centre take pride in providing dental services that are suitable for the entire family. The majority of dental procedures that take place at our practice fall under the preventative category. These preventative services include in-office dental care like dental cleanings and oral health screenings, but also include gum disease treatments and dental sealants. If you are a regular patient you are accustomed to these preventative services and likely come in twice a year for your standard checkup and cleaning.

Dental Exam

More recently, science has established a strong correlation between oral health and overall health. Considering that the mouth is the entryway to the rest of the body it makes sense that the two are so closely linked. During your dental checkup we will examine you for maladies such as gum disease, oral cancer, tooth decay and other problems that can potentially stem from your oral health. Catching any possible dental health issues early is the key to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Coming in for regular checkups — we recommend two a year – is the best way to ensure you have optimal oral health.

Dental Cleaning

Your dental checkup and dental cleaning are often lumped into the same appointment. The cleaning, or prophylaxis (prophy for short), is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. During your prophy, our office will use special tools to gently remove tartar from your teeth and around your gum line. Left untreated, this buildup can lead to gum disease and can eventually cause such oral health problems as inflammation, loose or lost teeth, and even worse, oral cancer and other overall health issues.

Dental Sealants

It is likely that you have had a dental sealant applied to your teeth at some point in your life. Sealants are thin coatings carefully painted onto the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Because the sealants “seal” the surfaces of our teeth, they prevent food particles and tartar from settling into the deep nooks and crannies of our teeth. These particles can cause bacteria to build up that can result in tooth decay. Although sealants are primarily applied to the back teeth of children and teens, adults can also benefit from them.

Gum Disease

Gum disease affects millions of people around the world each year and often goes undetected. Gum disease, otherwise known as periodontal disease, can range from mild inflammation of the gums to more serious problems that affect the soft tissue and bone surrounding the teeth. Gum disease is caused by the buildup or tartar, or plaque, on our teeth. This buildup can be prevented from regular brushing and flossing but only a professional dental cleaning can remove all of it. Our office treats patients with all stages of gum disease and can help you to maintain, or revive, your optimal oral health.

Snoring Appliances

Snoring appliances are oral devices custom created by your dentist to help you treat or improve your snoring. Most of these appliances seek to remedy snoring by moving the lower jaw forward so that the sleeper’s tongue doesn’t block the airway, a major cause behind snoring. Snoring can be a serious precursor to sleep apnea, a dangerous oral health problem that can result in additional health issues. Patients (or their sleep partners!) seeking to remedy the effects of snoring should consider a custom-designed appliance designed by Dr. Rykiss. These custom appliances will be fit according to your exact needs and will provide comfortable use that makes sleeping better for everyone.

Mouthguards

In addition to helping patients prevent the wear and tear imposed on their teeth from grinding, mouthguards are also useful for preventing sports-related injuries. Dr. Rykiss can create a night guard (used for sleeping to prevent grinding) as well as custom sports mouthguards that offer the most custom fit possible.

Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is most commonly attributed to the removal of wisdom teeth but may also be necessary if a patient has a severely loose or damaged tooth. Despite the claims about the pains of “pulling teeth,” having a tooth extracted is a fairly straightforward procedure that involves only a small amount of discomfort. Local anesthetic is applied before the tooth is removed to numb the area and will prevent any pain that may be associated.

Dental X-Rays

Linden Market Dental Centre has invested in digital dental x-ray machine equipment throughout the office for the well-being of patients who are concerned about radiation. We use this machine to examine the health of teeth as well as inspect areas below the gum line or jaw.
