Cosmetic Dental Bonding in Winnipeg

When patients want to improve the coloring, shape or size of teeth but don’t need porcelain veneers, Dr. Rykiss may recommend cosmetic dental bonding. In some instances dental bonding requires much less tooth preparation, and can be completed in just one visit to our Winnipeg practice.

To improve the appearance of teeth, Dr. Rykiss hand-sculpts a tooth-colored resin composite material to the prepared surface of a tooth. Once he is certain that the bonded tooth matches the patient’s natural teeth in shape, size, and color, he uses a special light to harden the sculpting material. When performed by a skilled cosmetic dentist such as Dr. Rykiss, cosmetic dental bonding produces dazzling results patients enjoy for years to come.

What Types of Dental Issues can Benefit from Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding can be used to restore damaged teeth but also to enhance the appearance of healthy teeth. In restorative procedures, dental bonding can often be a solution to some cases that include:

  1. Decayed teeth
  2. Chipped teeth
  3. Fractured teeth
  4. Discolored teeth

While often used in restorations, patients who receive dental bonding treatments from Dr. Rykiss also benefit from his experience as a highly trained cosmetic dentist. This means Dr. Rykiss will help restore a tooth to its intended form and function but will also take additional measure to make it look as natural and aesthetically pleasing as possible.

In this regard, dental bonding can also be used as a cosmetic dentistry procedure. Because the composite resin that is used can be shaped and matched for color to the surrounding teeth, it can be used to improve such dental conditions such as:

  1. Discolored teeth
  2. Gapped teeth
  3. Short teeth
  4. Misshapen teeth

While cosmetic dental bonding is a viable solution for many minor dental problems and to enhance the appearance of smiles, it does have its limitations. Dental bonding is cheaper than porcelain veneers but only a professional evaluation with Dr. Rykiss will help you to determine if dental bonding can help you to achieve your smile goals or correct your dental issues.

Dental Bonding Procedure

After you and Dr. Rykiss have determined that dental bonding will help you to reach your smile goals, Dr. Rykiss will start by finding the most appropriate shade of composite resin to match your existing teeth. From there, a mild etching solution and conditioning liquid will be placed on the effected teeth so that the bonding material can adhere. Dr. Rykiss will methodically and gently apply the dental bonding resin onto the effected tooth, carefully molding it so that it reaches the desired shape. The material is then hardened with a curing light, shaped and trimmed accordingly, and finally polished so that it matches the sheen of your existing teeth.

The entire procedure may be completed in under an hour, however multiple teeth being treated could add more time.
